Early Christianity triumphed because if offered physical “eternal life” to believers. For those who are old, dying or dead, it promised the physical resurrection of the dead.
Although this resurrection of the dead was considered crass and scandalous to the learned and the sophisticated, it was precisely the reason why Christianity triumphed over Greek Paganism.
Christianity’s reign over the past two millennia is testament to the power of our Fear of Death, our thirst for immortality.
In Christianity, Jesus is both human and god. This is our way of saying that humans should be gods, that mortals should become immortals.
