“Obamacare”, though not universal and not single-payer, extended health care to millions of Americans. Trump and the Republican Party are trying to take back health care from those millions, and millions more. So they can give the “savings” to the rich and the big corporations in tax breaks.
This is ruthless and stark Class Warfare. The kind that no government in the European Union dares to wage. Since it would most likely trigger open rebellion and result in regime-change.
Until the U.S. Death Society fulfills its obligations under Article 25 of the United Nation’s Universal Declaration of Human Rights and give all Americans regime universal, adequate, and affordable health care, as all citizens of the EU have long enjoyed, until then the U.S. Empire with its Mortalist-Capitalist regime has no moral right and zero credibility to pontificate on human rights.
Article 25 of the United Nation’s Universal Declaration of Human Rights states:
“Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself and of his family, including food, clothing, housing and **medical care** and necessary social services, and the right to security in the event of unemployment, sickness, disability, widowhood, old age or other lack of livelihood in circumstances beyond his control.” (asterisks added)
You notice that Article 25 also declares that “food, clothing, housing and medical care and necessary social services” are all basic human rights. The United States is also in flagrant violation of those human rights.
Article 25 is why such basic necessities are provided in all EU countries. As well as in most other civilized nations. And even in “poor” Communist Cuba. As well as in “poor” Maoist China.
But in the “great again” United States, the so-called beacon of the “free world,” 11.3 percent of U.S. adults — or 30 million adult Americans — still do not have health insurance, even under “Obamacare.” (Gallup-Healthways poll, first quarter 2017)
This is scandalous and outrageous.
Yet we do not hear any condemnation from any of the usual defenders of human rights in the U.S. and in Europe. Ah, perhaps they only care about political human rights.
We Immortalists care about economic human rights too. Otherwise, the human rights issue degenerates into a geopolitical weapon against nations we don’t like, usually our competitors.
Whereas a dirt-poor Third World country might be able to plead poverty as to lack of universal health care (Maoist China and Communist Cuba, though poor, gave universal health care to its people), the U.S. has no such excuse. It has been one of the wealthiest nations on the planet since the start of the twentieth century.
By cherry=picking the sort of human rights it chooses to honor, the U.S. is cynically using human rights as a geopolitical weapon to destabilize and bludgeon states which threaten its empire’s military or economic stranglehold on the world.
