This $230 million for this new coalition (NIH, Big Pharma, Nonprofits) against Alzheimer’s, Type 2 Diabetes, Rheumatoid Arthritis, and Lupus sounds impressive. Until you read the fine print and realize it is over 5 years. This means it is only 46 million dollars a year. Divided by the four target diseases of Alzheimer’s, Type 2 Diabetes, Rheumatoid Arthritis, and Lupus, and you get only eleven and a half million dollars of new research monies for each of these four ailments. Not very impressive. Especially when you consider the serious cuts that the NIH has suffered at the hands of the Bush and Obama regimes. — Elixxir
